InfoStat

InfoStat is general-purpose software for statistical analysis for Windows. It covers all the basic needs for descriptive statistical analysis and the production of graphs for the exploratory analysis. It also has advanced statistical methods for statistical modeling and multivariate analysis. One of its strengths is its simple interface combined with professional capabilities for statistical computing and data management. Because of its origin in a university, the program has many facilities for the teaching statistics that are not easy to find in other similar programs. A property, that is almost unique among statistical software, is its capability to connect to R. This connection happens in two different ways: through the interpreter which can run R scripts without leaving the InfoStat working environment and trough the implemented menu-driven procedures which make use of the R's calculation engine. This is the case of the implementation of the mixed linear models in InfoStat. These models have always been difficult to specify because of their complexity, but with the InfoStat user's interface we achieved to incorporate their contents into postgraduate courses and technical training to professional that otherwise would have been impossible to achieve.
